No doubt about it, the sound produced by many artificial baits helps predators locate the lure and then triggers strikes. Some hard crankbaits have hollow rattle chambers with a few BB's or ball bearings that bounce around and click as the lure wobbles through the water. And although a variety of rattles are marketed for soft plastic baits, very few emit the volume or amount of rattle as the hard baits because of how they're rigged.
To make a rattle... well... rattle, you need the ball bearings inside to go back and forth, hitting the ends of the glass, metal, or plastic tube. Most methods of rigging soft plastics produce almost no sound from the rattles because there is no good way to make the BB's bounce back and forth. With the Wiggle Rig, though, there's a way to create rattles like you're holding it in your hand, and I'm going to show you you to make this happen. Our name for this is the Wiggle Rattle.
The Wiggle Rattle is a two-piece system designed to place a rattle
cylinder in-line with the SpecTastic bungee cord or fishing line. Position it anywhere you desire
- on the main fishing line or at the top of the SpecTastic bungee cord. Use it with any lure and any hook.
1. Start with a 4mm glass rattle and silicone tubing cut into quarter inch lengths.
2. Insert the fishing line or SpecTastic bungee cord through a short length of silicone tube.
3. Next, insert the rattle into the sleeve. Friction between the tube and rattle will hold the it in place during normal use.
When the rattle is clamped on the line or
Recoil Rig™, every shake of your rod tip produces a loud RATTLE,, like the clicking sound of a hard crank bait. The advantage is that your rattling lure can remain in one place, which increases the predators' chances of locating it.
The best fish attractors don't have to cost you a fortune. Try this next time you're out, and I think you'll be pleased with the results.
Good fishing...
